This book is about a girl named Lily, a mermaid that has spent her last three years on the main land. Like every other girl, she's drooling over the popular guy at school, who she thinks she's in love with. But as expected this guy doesn't give her the attention that she wants, and so she is willing to accept any help that she might get. But when she kisses the wrong guy, her life turns into this huge dilemma, since when mermaids kiss, they bond with that person for life!
Oh, where to begin ...
I thought this book was very entertaining and appealing. Plotwise it was absolutely enthralling to me. It's not those types of books where you can sense the author struggles with creativity and character development. It comes out very natural and is basically a page turner. Childs created an extremely entertaining main character. The plot is so interesting, considering that she deals with so much: rejection, bullying, loneliness, frustration, self-consciousness (...) The plot revolves around Lily trying to overcome this "dilemma", since she is bonded with the wrong person, and figuring out her feellings for the people that surround her. After reading a heavy, ginormous book, this one is a very light, romantic and amazing read. Childs created this astonishing underwater world that totally mesmerized me.
In terms of characters, they couldn't be any better, really. The author managed to bring to life one of the most realistic, reliable, loveable and relatable characters of all time. Lily was somewhat shy and afraid to show her feelings, but totally straight foward and alluring. Her best friends, were trust-worthy and truly wise, never reluctant to give Lily a piece of their minds. Now, please don't get me started on QUINCE. Definitely my favorite character on this book, not only because he seems to be endearingly hot, but also because he was skilfull and humorous, enchanting, intriguing and absolutely perfect! The king was loyal and an excellent father, and Aunt Sue was always reliable and caring.
What can I say? This book is so much more than I can put into words (as a light book goes)! The Epilogue made me so eager to pick up the next one! Something tells me it will be much more surprising than this one. Can't wait to read it!
I was hooked on this book right from the beginning. It's a very promising read. Give it a chance and you'll not regret it! :D
